K&D: Sad Pizza, Happy Blogs

The time has arrived, for this week’s Kiss and Diss…for the good, the bad, and the ugly…

This week’s DISS goes to my Los Angeles Lakers. You see, I love the Lakers. Looooove the Lakers. It’s a young team with so much budding talent--and coupled with the fact that Kobe Bryant is seriously the sickest player in the NBA--that there was no excuse to lose to the Phoenix Suns last night…except, well, Nash’s phenomenal performance. JD and I went to a local pizza parlor to watch the game, but we ended up commiserating over a half vegetarian, half meat-lovers pizza. It was a sad Sunday afternoon for us.

This week’s KISS goes to two wonderful people:
*Rhonda, from Our Wedding Plus, hosts a wedding planning blog for brides. She’s decided to invite guest bloggers to contribute to the blog as well to provide tips from industry professionals. She asked me to be the wedding photography blogger, so you can check out my first write-up HERE
*The last KISS of the week, goes to Brock Martin of Infidesign. Brock is not only one of the sweetest, professional, and bestest (don’t worry, I make up words all the time!) person to work with, he’s extra amazing because he’s putting the finishing touches on a new and cool CUSTOM BLOG for me! Yaaaaay! The blog will be debuting within the next week or so…and I’m totally excited for everyone to see it! ;)

Happy Monday!

K&D: Good Read, Good Grief

It's time--yet again--for the weekly installment of KIsses and Disses!

This week’s KISS goes to an author by the name of James McBride. I recently finished his book, The Color of Water and it’s just fantastic. I mean, it’s so well written, yet simply stated. It’s autobiographical in nature and based on his mother’s life and his experiences being raised as a black man in Harlem by a Jewish mother. It’s a story about life, strength, and perserverence…and it’s truly moving. If you’re looking for a good read, pick up this book because it will enlighten you in more ways than one.

This week’s DISS goes out to none other than yours truly. I totally need to work on my form. As in photography form. I might have mentioned before that JD and I try to take the ugliest pictures possible of each other while we’re photographing a wedding. It’s dry humor, but I get a kick out of it every time I download his pictures. Until last week…when I saw what appeared to be a flaccid moose prostrate on the grass. Moose = Me. And it was so ugly! I laughed hysterically, then I nearly slapped myself for looking like an idiot in public.

It wasn’t until I received an email from David Bornais that I thought the picture should make its blog appearance. Because I have a dry sense of humor. David Bornais is a French photographer who is attending David Jay’s photography seminar in Paris later this summer and stumbled across my blog. He emailed asking about this photo from Alison and Matt’s wedding:

I couldn’t help but laugh to myself because as I was getting the above picture, I looked like this:

Wow, do I look pathetic or what?! If he knew how foolish I looked while taking that picture, I'm not so sure he would have trusted my advice! So, yup, this week’s DISS belongs all to me! ;)

K&D: Bruins, Albums, and the Hook-Up

Well, it’s time for yet again this week’s Kisses and Disses…com’on…I know you love ‘em! ;)

This week’s Diss goes out to UCLA’s Basketball Team for losing terribly to Florida yesterday. I’ll always LOVE my Bruin ballers…buuuut, losing twice to the same team back-to-back just kills me! And to make things worse, JD was participating in a NCAA Tournament pool and when he was choosing his favored teams, I practically forced him to pick the ‘old faithful Blue n Gold because I believed--believed!--they were gonna take the whole thing. I shot a wedding yesterday (I’ll be posting that tomorrow!) and the groom was a fellow Bruin, so we were staying atop of the score…sadly :( I left the reception with a gray cloud over my head. I just couldn’t believe the loss. Not only do I have no one left to cheer for, but JD can no longer win the pool!

This week’s Kiss goes out to Leather Craftsmen for simply being wonderful. I wanted a new sample album to display at A Soolip Wedding (click here to read more about it), and I really didn’t think my order would be filled in such a short amount of time. I emailed Ira (click here to read more about his amazingness) and begged for a minor miracle. Well, he made a phone call to Carol and I followed up with an email and…BAM…I had a new spankin’ album! I love it! Everyone there is amazing and I’m happy to know my clients are in good hands. On a sidenote, I ran into Ira and Bobby, Leather Craftsmen’s President, at [b]ecker’s 7th Annual Las Vegas Party and I was smitten with how truly fabulous they are. They’re even better than how everyone describes them, so if you get the chance, go out of your way to say hi.
**Oh, and, Bobby…if you ever read this, you told me that you’d take care of whatever I needed if I just let you know…well, I’m letting you know now that I’d sure love a few free sample albums to show prospective clients…you know, just so I can rave some more about how great you are! ;)**

Kisses and Disses

For the past day and a half I've been battling my blogger account to post images. I've been SO frustrated and because Blogger has the support staff comprised of what I assume are cantankerous chimpanzees, they've been no help. So, today I've finally been able to post. In lieu of this debacle, I'm starting a new weekly blog entry entitled Kisses and Disses. Every week I'll spread a lil' lovin' to people are deserve it and a lump of coal to those who make my life harder. Or something like that.

This week's Disses go to:
*Blogger, for driving me nuts the past couple of days; and
*The Oil Companies of the United States. People, please...I've spent a small nation's yearly GDP on gas lately and it's no fun. I saw a special on CNN this morning and a reporter cited that Germans who drive slowly along the autobahn save on gas. So I tried it out. Not on the autobahn, but on the 5 freeway this afternoon. I lasted all of 26 seconds. At this rate, I'll be buying a mule or a moped in the next few weeks.

This week's Kisses go to:
*JD. Yup, he just had to get props because I was lucky enough to have him join me at my engagement shoot on Sunday. He's an awesome assistant and second-shooter...and he carries my bag for me. Need I say more?! :)
I snapped this picture of him and I love it. It embodies both my passions--photography and JD--in one moment and it makes me thankful to have him by my side.
